The remarkable achievements of societies throughout the various periods of human history reflect the fact that planning has always played a key role in development of scientific and academic organizations. Dezful Jundi-Shapur University of Technology, a legacy of Gundi-Shapur Ancient University going back to some 1750 years ago, embarked on fulfilling an extensive array of educational and research duties in 1976. The university has ever since been a scientific hub of industry in northern Khuzestan and has protected the scientific status and reputation of the area. In doing so, we need to conduct studies which are not only knowledge-based and modern but also expand the frontiers of knowledge while maintaining the necessary integration between the different sectors. Also, the need to recognize the scientific and cultural identity of the country and complete the academic bridge connecting the research from one side and the existing experiences in academic departments from another side can help us in achieving the recognition of scientific identity, the localization and the commercialization of research findings, with emphasis on providing and responding to the needs of executive governmental and non-governmental organizations and institutions.
The ultimate philosophy for any planning is to increase the likelihood of an organization's success in achieving its expected and desired results. Having a plan, while a useful agenda for the management of the organization, is one of the key forms of accountability to stakeholders and sets the framework for the organization's performance report. All organizations are required to meet four basic criteria to achieve their rightful place: setting goals, planning, predicting facilities, and executing the plans properly. In this line, the strategic planning model is one of the most accepted models. In addition to providing a structured agenda for the organization, this planning model serves to improve the level of attitudes in managers due to the involvement of different units in the planning process. To this end, the model was placed on the agenda of top managers of the university in formulating the university’s strategic plan. In this context, the responsibility of each university unit to complete the strategic puzzle of the university has been specified. The Jundi-Shapur Research Institute achieved the following project to implement the university's overall policy on the one hand and to enhance organizational success on the other: Step-by-step planning: statement of the mission, goals, and plans. For each of these 4 sections, specialized introductory stages were performed and teamwork sessions were held. During the sessions, while agreeing on the plans and goals, a shared vision was reached by the members as to the future of the research center and its path.
